Petals and Paintbrushes

At The Carrollton New Orleans, Mrs. Chao has found plenty of room to let her creativity bloom. A talented watercolor artist and avid gardener, the resident recently shared both passions with the community during “Petals and Paintbrushes,” an art and garden exhibit held in her honor.

Mrs. Chao may be an accomplished artist, but she never made her living with a paintbrush. She was a chemistry teacher. For years, however, she has created beautiful Western and Chinese watercolor paintings, along with watercolor stationery that gives her artistic talents a practical purpose.

Her creativity also flourishes in the Courtyard Garden, where Mrs. Chao tends several garden boxes. Her latest harvest includes cucumbers, peppers, eggplants and herbs, along with an abundance of colorful flowers.

Whether she is working with a watercolor brush or a garden trowel, Mrs. Chao clearly has a talent for making things grow.
